The Inhabitant (NR) This horror film stars Leslie Bibb, Dermot Mulroney, Odessa A’Zion, Lizze Broadway, and Ryan Francis. Goodbye (NR) This Indian film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Rashmika Mandanna, Neena Gupta, Sunil Grover, Pavail Gulati, and Ashish Vidyarthi. Also with Salman Khan, Nayanthara, Satyadev Kancharana, Indrajith Sukumaran, and Rehan Katrawale. Godfather (NR) A remake of the 2019 Malayalam-language film Lucifer, this Indian mob drama is about a mysterious man (Chiranjeevi) who assumes power after the death of a mobbed-up political leader. Also with Kajal Aggarwal, Gul Panag, Sonal Chauhan, Manish Chaudhari, and Keith Dallison. The Ghost (NR) Nagarjuna Akkineni stars in this Indian cop thriller as an Interpol detective who fakes his own death to protect his family. Also with Randy Wayne, Malin Crépin, William Miller, Konglar Kanchanahoti, and Thao Nhu Phan. That gives this a distinction that other horror movies at the multiplex don’t possess. Director and story writer Brando Lee still deserves credit for taking this material from another culture and making it digestible to a Western audience. For all this, the film never quite coalesces in storytelling terms or gives us a new type of scare. This movie has a great deal going for it: the novelty of the tropical setting, the fraughtness of her romance with her producer (Jordan Belfi), the presence of Harris Dickinson in a small role as a cameraman, and the mythology of the kuman thong, a spirit from Thai folklore that comes from babies that die before birth. Don’t Look at the Demon (NR) A Buddhist demonic possession movie! Fiona Dourif stars in this horror film as a medium and host of an American paranormal investigator TV show who visits a haunted British Colonial mansion in Malaysia with her crew.
